Physical Education (PE)

Curriculum intent

During Physical Education at Lyndhurst we establish a sporting culture that enables and encourages all children to play and enjoy sport and physical activity. Our curriculum provides opportunities for all pupils to succeed and excel in both competitive sport and other physically demanding activities.

It is our passion to ensure that all children take part and enjoy PE, so that they become physically confident and develop a love of sport for life.

We use the The PE Hub scheme of work, which was carefully devised to cover all aspects of the National Curriculum. In KS1 our pupils are taught the key fundamental movement skills of agility, balance and coordination through progressive challenges and mini-games. They are taught key transferable skills that they can then use and apply to specific sports and activities.

In KS2, PE lessons focus on a specific sport, where children use their transferable skills from KS1 as well as learning new sport specific skills and tactics. We believe that PE is more than developing just physical skills. We ensure that pupils become aware of the importance of physical activity as well as how to lead a healthy and active life. Each lesson has both a physical objective and an additional objective, which focuses on either social, personal or cognitive skills.

We offer multiple extra-curricular opportunities, which allow children to further explore and develop their repertoire of skills and knowledge of sports.
