Update from Year Three

An update from Year Three
In Science this half term Year 3 have been learning all about plants! They have learnt about the different parts of plants and their functions. We have also learnt all about transpiration and photosynthesis. They went on a plant scavenger hunt, as well as studying a Tree of the Week! To help them learn about what a plant needs to grow and survive, the children planted their own sunflowers, which they have had to look after and write about their observations. Check out some of their plants here:
In Maths, at Lyndhurst we have introduced a weekly Maths Fluency lesson for Year one up to Year Six. The lessons are based on the four operations: Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying & Dividing. The aim of the lessons are to develop the children’s calculating skills as well as their arithmetic fluency in these areas. This is achieved by splitting each lesson into 2 parts, with a weekly operation focus. The first part of the lesson focuses on a mental method that the children could use for the given operation and the second part of the lesson focuses on a written method for that operation. In the fifth lesson of each half term, the children practice their methods across all four operations. Check out some of their work here:
