Year Six Residential

An action packed week in Dorset for our year six pupils to mark their final term at our school.

With bags packed and spirits high, our Year 6 children set off early for their long-awaited school journey to Purbeck Valley—a week brimming with challenge, excitement and unforgettable memories.

Upon arrival, we headed straight to the coast. Among whispering grasses and swooping dragonflies, we spotted wildlife before plunging into the sea for a thrilling wild swim. As night fell, children raced through a Mini Olympics and settled into tents for a magical sleepover beneath the stars.

The next morning, deep in the forest, curiosity took the lead. Armed with magnifying pots and sharp eyes, we examined bugs, classified animal droppings (to much amusement!)and admired Corfe Castle from afar. Our bushcraft sessions—fire-lighting, shelter-building, archery and bread-making—unleashed creativity and resilience in abundance. Later, the joy of the slip and slide capped off a truly amazing and hands-on day.

Midweek brought sensory challenges with the Nightline, and bold leaps into the sea during coasteering at Dancing Ledge. That evening, children competed in football with Mr Barber and Mr Scarlett as well as gathering around a glowing campfire for songs, marshmallows and a quiz. The night ended in fits of laughter thanks to a classic prank—Miss Harwood’s surprise sleeping bag stunt, complete with Miss Savvides’ theatrical reaction as children rolled down the hill.

By Day 4, the beach called once more. Giant paddleboards took teams out to sea for games, pyramid-building and the infamous Man Overboard. Back on land, we sculpted sand pits, buried our classmates, and built rafts—followed by traditional fish and chips, ice cream, and a crabbing session where even eels made an appearance. The evening brought a frisbee tournament and dance party with Miss Flynn—energy, laughter and music all round—before Mr Barbour delivered a brief but brilliant burst of karaoke to close the day in style.

Our final day took us to Corfe Castle, where the children explored the ruins and unearthed tales of the past, before one last stop at the sweet shop and a coach journey home—full of chatter, tired smiles and memories to last a lifetime.
