The Scoop Week 5th March 2024

Hello Lyndhurst Family,

It feels like spring is almost here, you might notice the bulbs planted in the laneway garden starting to push through and the more eagle-eyed might see the roses planted in the year one garden that are also starting to develop. In the reception classrooms their vegetables beds are looking very appetising more so than the giant tank of frogspawn that sits in pride of place in their classroom.

If the new growth in the garden is not enough of an indicator then hopefully book week is, this week pupils will be undertaking activities based on ‘Archipelago: An Atlas of Imagined Islands’ by Huw Lewis-Jones.

Here are this week’s notices:

Bike Market:

This Friday sees the return of our Bike Market. We encourage anyone who has an old bike that they no longer want to bring it in at drop off(or on Thursday at drop-off). The bikes will be serviced and repaired and the non Friday after school in the playground there will be a bike sale. All bikes will be sold at discounted prices having been serviced and made safe. The attached poster has more information.

Beyond the Classroom summer term club offer:

Last week you will have received our Beyond the Classroom club offer for the summer term in an email from Mr Peddle. In the email you will find a link for a form to fill out to give your club preferences. The deadline to fill in this form is this Thursday 7thMarch. Offers for club places will then be sent out by Friday 15th March.

Book Week 2024:

On Thursday, 7th March we are encouraging pupils to dress up as a book character. The attached flyer also details a competition that is running.

Parents Evening:

Booking is now open for parents evening. Please ensure that you have booked a slot for each of your children. All bookings take place via My Child At School. If you are having trouble please speak to your child’s teacher in the first instance.

Cycling Competition:

Imagine a world where more people ride bikes, the roads are safer, the air is cleaner, and lots of people enjoy being active outdoors. We'dl ove for you to be a part of this by designing the "bike of the future" to help us picture this amazing vision! For full details including how to submit an entry see the attached poster.

Message from Public Health:

Measles is continuing to spread in South London, primarily as a result of low MMR coverage. Coverage in Southwark is well below the 95% target for measles elimination, and therefore the borough will be at risk of outbreaks until MMR coverage recovers to pre-pandemic levels. All children and young people under25 are being encouraged to make sure they are up to date with the vaccine as they are the most likely to be exposed to measles, as are over 25s who have not had two doses of the MMR vaccine, or measles immunity acquired through infection. To help improve uptake, Southwark are organising a pop-up clinic at Peckham Library on Saturday 16thMarch between 11am and 3.30pm.

Activities in Southwark:

As Easter arrives there is lots on in Southwark, from discounted tickets to the Golden Hinde, children’s author sessions or festivals.

Therapy Dogs:

Do you have some spare time and a dog with an easy-going temperament? We are looking to support someone in training their dog (and their owner) in becoming a therapy dog. The school would cover the costs in exchange for a regular commitment for visits. If you are interested please contact Mr Turnham.

Being Safe Online:

Following on from our recent online safety parent session, in the coming weeks we will be directing you to one of the brilliant parentguides available on our website. This week’s guide is on ‘E Sport’. You can view the guide here.

That’s it from us, have a great week.
