The Scoop Week 28th Nov 2023

Hello Lyndhurst Family,

Its been a busy week, we had our first stay and play session attended by over fifteen families! The session will happen weekly on Friday mornings, so do drop in. We also had our choir perform at ‘The Amazing Magic Lantern Show’ in St Giles’s Church. The autumn term is always jam packed so do keep an eye on the key dates both on the website and in the scoop. This is also the time of year when the weather forces last minute changes, as happened yesterday with the Yr 6 Gaelic Football fixture, we will do our best to text any last minute alterations when needed.

Here are this week’s notices:

SEND Friendly Winter Woodland Fair:

Join us at the Friends of Lyndhurst Winter Woodland Fair this Saturday, December 2nd!Experience a special opening at 2:30 PM, where we have dedicated the first half an hour of the fair to providing a quieter experience to support children and families with SEND. The fair will then be open to everyone from 3pm - 6pm.See you there!

Individual and Sibling

Photographs:

This Wednesday the two classes who did not make the slot for individual photographs and all of the sibling photographs will be taken.

Christmas Jumper Day & Lunch:

We know that not everyone within our community celebrates Christmas and that this time of year can be tricky for families of faith. On Thursday, 7th December we will be having a Christmas lunch (a traditional roast dinner served with Christmas crackers and some Christmas music). On this day those who wish may wear Christmas or Winter jumpers. If you would prefer that your child has their meal (a roast dinner) in a different hall away from Christmas carols and crackers, please email the school office before Monday 4th December.

Winter Parties:

As we have done in previous years we will be having Winter parties in the last week of term, these parties are to celebrate the end of the first term. Your child’s phase leader will be sending out details of the parties shortly including a request for food donations (which will include some notes about food allergies). These parties are non-denominational so are accessible to pupils of all faiths.

Winter Concert:

Tuesday 19thDecember sees the return of our spectacular Winter Concert. More details will be sent out shortly but the concert will start at 6pm and children should be at St Giles for 5:45pm join their class and form teacher. This is one of our more formal concerts so we ask that you arrive punctually to avoid disruption. If your child cannot make the concert you will need to notify the school beforehand. Again, to avoid disruption to the children's performances we strongly advise that collection be made at the end of the concert unless arranged earlier with your class teacher (for special circumstances). Pupils will need to wear their school PE kit for the concert (it can be chilly so we advise green jumpers and black bottoms). Lastly, over the last couple of years we've noticed a rise in background noise from those standing at the back of the church and even in the pews, can we please remind you all to the respect the children's hard work by not talking during the performance.

Winter is Coming!

The weather is getting colder and wetter, please ensure that your child has a warm, waterproof jacket in school.

Lyndhurst Alumni:

A former pupil Sophie Wedgwood was selected for this year's Taylor Wessing Portrait prize at the National Portrait gallery, Sophie's photo is 'Boy on Grass'. The show is on now and ends in February.

Parent Survey:

A huge thank you to everyone that took part in our parent survey earlier this term, we had 145 responses in total. You told us that you were pleased with the work we have done on the quality of teaching, leadership of the school and communication and the website. You also told us that you want us to continue to develop the quality of our teaching, our Beyond the Classroom offer and continue to refine our communication. We look forward to sharing with you some of the work we are doing in these areas before our next survey.

Have a great week.
